DEADLINE TO APPLY: Thursday, October 30th at 11:59pm
West Virginia Citizen Action Group (WVCAG) and People Over Petro Coalition (POPCO) are seeking to commission a West Virginia-based visual artist/illustrator to collaborate on creating artwork around regional air quality issues, such as industrial pollution threats in the Kanawha Valley.
The commissioned artist will work with WVCAG organizers to identify messaging, imagery, and scope of design work, including respectful artist fees. We are especially interested in collaborating with an artist who enjoys working with environmental themes and/or people’s movements, as well as an artist who has some experience designing images for posters/screenprints. Prior professional experience in these areas is not required, however – when in doubt, please apply! We want to know about you and your art.
The design timeline is fall/winter 2025-26, with exact delivery dates to be determined in the initial project scope meeting.

ELIGIBILITY:
All West Virginia-based artists who are at least 18 years old and able to work in the United States are welcome to apply.
TO APPLY:
Please fill out this form no later than the deadline: Thursday, October 30th at 11:59pm. Late or incomplete submissions may not be considered.
SELECTION PROCESS AND TIMELINE:
Applications will be reviewed by a selection panel made up of representatives from both WVCAG and the People Over Petro Coalition (project partner) and will be scored based on applicants’ aligned experience and interest, artistic excellence, and demonstrated readiness for the commissioning process.
All applicants will be notified of their status by December 1.
Questions? Please reach out to POPCO’s Grassroots Communications Strategist, Elle Thoni, at elle@peopleoverpetro.org
